Incapcity benifit payable through income support due to lack of stamp paid????

Hey guys i am looking for advice on what i am entitled to! i am currently suffering from severe depression and take 3x75mg dosulpin daily these are one of the strongest valiums anti depressents you can get also i take zispin at night to help me sleep! I have been claiming income support for nearly 18 months now and recently made a rapid reclaim as i started work to try and help my depression but it made me worse! they procceseed my claim today and have awarded me a disabilty payment on top of my income support! before i was getting £50.95 a week and now with this disability add on i get like £74.00 a week! Should i have been entitled to this money all along? or is it just as of this new claim!

Also do people think its worth me putting a claim in for dla or am i just going to waste my time?

are there any other benifits i can claim and also does this disability add on for my income support open any doors for me are there any hidden advanteges getting it awarded to you? x

All replies will be grealty appreciated

The DP will have come from being on IB for more than a year. It doesnt really open any more doors that I know of apart from the fact that it is more money.

    Hi josh1010,

Slightly off topic, but just so you are aware, dosulpin is not valium. Dosulpin is a tricyclic, whereas valium is from a group of drugs called benzodiazapines. It doesn't really matter in terms of your benefit entitlement, but is important if ever you needed to tell other medical professionals, as their contraindications are very different.
    Gone ... or have I?

    Doubt it.

If they only processed your claim today it means your case was closed when their computers ran the scans to establish who was entitled to the cold weather payments. You might need to phone them to establish if they're going to prepare a cold weather payment for you manually.

You can also ask them about the disability premium extra that should have kicked in once you'd been on benefit for a year. That's normally awarded automatically but ask them to check it for you anyway.

And yeah, mental health problems can be a major disability. So go for it if you want to claim DLA.
  • I applied for dla back in august though due to a having chrones disease which is off topic like and the application was declined! so could i apply again for the depression which is all due to a sexual assault! i just dont want to miss out on anything and find it difficult sorting out my own affairs!!
  • yes you can apply again, maybe helpful to enlist welfare rights or cab to help with the application.
