Surely the need of a patient to be able to phone their GP without the worry of the additional cost of the call should be the priority.Put the kettle on.

Total rubbish from GPC. There aren't any 0844s in inclusive call packages so there are none that qualify for the NHS rule of costing no more than a geo local call. NEG would be insane to provide such a commitment.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

my dr's surgery has an 08 number for a few years, but they have never informed me of this - i still use the local number that is in my mobile and always get through if i need them!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

It's disgusting. I complained to my surgery and this ugly fat cow (no other way to describe her after her attitude) said I was wrong about the charges and had no idea what I was talking about. She's no longer there but the 0844 is because they can have very long contracts and it's Free™ for the surgery of course. Yes, Free™ for some but very expensive for others. One thing theyy did correct though was their 'system' was taking every single call (ie no engaged) making them (supplier) a f***ing fortune. My in-law got hit for a £9 (!) charge while on hold with her mobile. People just don't know these are premium rate numbers. Every time I was in there people were complaining and making quite a fuss.
Oh, and I got them to remove the "Lo-call" signs too as the idiots we print their signs and argued with me said is was a "Lo-call" number but making it sound like a local number.
I also contacted the NHS and my MP and they had no idea what I was talking about. These people have far too much money and secure jobs and pensions etc to be the slightest bit bothered.
I've not (never will) ring 0844 myself but the thing that annoys me is throughout the surgery there's dozens of signs like
