I'm in the North of England so obviously prices do differ but 1yr ago I had my very large 5 bed detached (hence 4 long walls & high house) painted. I had the render all given 2 coats of paint and all window frames and barge boards done.

It cost me £2000 so I do think your price is on the high side. Incidently although the North is cheaper I have now got a fab decorator who works for £40 per day!!!

Way to much, I was quoted £2000 for a detached Barnet/ Hets border.

Cant really say without more details -

What is the surface they are painting onto?
Is it previously painted? If so, will it be the same colour?
What condition is the surface in?
Are there wooded window frames, roof facias and external doors to be painted? What is their condition?
    What guarantee is being offered?
    What paint are they using?
    Are they supplying the scaffolding?

    etc etc --

    Good point, well made.

Masonry will be painted the same colour - not sure of the condition - seems OK.

The window sills, but not frames, are wood - not in good condition. My neighbours downstairs (it's a converted semi) have a small side utility room extension which has a lot of mahogany wood frames in poor condition.

The quote makes no mention of scaffolding - I hadn't thought about it but I guess that's EU regulations now, right?

Had it done 10 years ago and it was £700 hence the shock. I was expecting £2000 I think.

My lease says the house should be painted every 3 years - not at £5K a throw it won't!

Spoke to the estimators and they reckoned it was 5 days work, with nothing particularly unusual about the property and no scaffolding involved.

Had a Polish chap round last night and he wanted £750 plus materials, which can't come to more than £300 or so I'd have thought.

https://www.ExteriorHousePainters.com estimated £825 online including materials but I suspect that will rise if they do a proper on site inspection. Any comments appreciated.

    Hi Silvercar

I would be interested in details of your painter, if you would recommend him, as I am in the Barnet area and getting quotes at the moment.

I have been quoted £3500 for a white rendered semi with quite a few cracks in the rendering.
