Funny you should say that, I've just removed the wheels from a car abandonded in a layby on a dual carriage way.

This would be my worry leaving it overnight - coming back to find it stripped of all its goodies - radio / wheels etc:hello:0 -
Hia,
My girlfriend broke down on the way home from work today but with all the local garages shut already and no breakdown cover we've had to leave it in the layby until the garages open tomorrow so we can get one of them to have a look at it?
Is it OK to leave the car in the layby overnight or will it be towed away, clamped, ticketed, blown up in a controlled explosion?
Thanks for any help,
Worto.
Just for futher reference Autoaid costs £37 per year and works well as long as you have a credit card.
There is a thread about them on the insurance board.

A limo had broken down and was left in a layby a few miles away last Nov, surprise surprise when the owner returned in the morning there wasn't a great deal of left. Why the hell it was left is beyond me and it was adjacent to the only rough estate in the area.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

I would have thought you'd be fine. As long as you're not sleeping in it or trying to sell it there or anything like that I don't think its restricted.
HGV Drivers sleep in their cabs in lay by's all over the country every night, so no big deal to sleep in it.;)
I'm not sure that I would want to leave a car in a lay by tho'.0 -

I think if I was going to sleep in my car I'd choose somewhere a bit nicer than a layby lol.0 -

I hope OP recovered their car safely and the repairs were not too expensive?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Leave a rented van outside the Bank of England and I'd wager that it wouldn't be there in three days time.
There isn't a layby outside. They are main roads with yellow lines0
