Banks & Finance House employment verification checks

When you apply for credit card or loan what sort of checks do they do?

Do they ring up & ask for you at "work"? or fax, send a letter or whatever to confirm employment?

Second if I bought a company which has not traded but been established for over 3 years but had been submitting returns, accounts saying dormat.
Then I get one of these companies who answer phone and let you use their mail address, fax etc would that work to convince them?

Mainly as I am self employed and getting a car loan with no accounts is tricky if not impossible.

Lastly has anyone had any dealings with Compass vehicle services based in surrey? they said all i had to do was send 3 months bank statements driving license and 5x monthly payment as deposit, I haven't as I had not heard any reports of them or if they can do what they say.

If you can help with above I would be grateful.

Couldn't you just (shock) tell the truth about your employment status - or is fraud really trendy still on these boards?
  • If you are newly self employed or freelance you have real problems getting car loans, shouldn't be however that is the situation.

So I will do everything I can to claim to reduce tax getting a loan for your car is one way of doing this, but fraud? as long as you can keep up with the payments it isn't fraud is it?
