Amazon lies

Just before Xmas my son's xbox broke so I contacted Amazon who I'd bought it from as part of a bundle the xmas before. I spoke to an american who gave me american info eg call xbox on 8004myxbox - which i explained I couldn't use as I was in the UK - they were adamant that was the number for Microsoft. As it turns out it wasn't the UK number.
I then got a follow up email from Amazon asking if my problem was resolved and I sent one back saying no I'd been given incorrect details.
I then received an email apologising for their error and a reassurance that if I returned the xbox they'd give me a full refund.
I called on 21/12/9 asking how much they would refund me as when I bought it, it was part of a bundle and was reassured that I'd get £159.98 refund which was the cost of the Xbox at the time of the purchase.
I duly returned it and got an email saying as I bought it as part of a bundle they are only refunding me £83!
I've phoned up to complain about the misinformation and was told they'd put my order forward for a full refund.
I then got an email this afternoon saying they are adamant that that is all it's worth as part of the bundle. (It was a bundle I got after seeing it on here, the entertainment pack - and FIFA 09 all for £169.99)
I've just spent over an hour arguing that I've got both and email and a phone conversation stating I'd get a full refund of £159.98 but they are refusing to refund this amount!
I've been put through to a manager who said that did I really expect a full refund and I said yes that's what I was told - well then do you think the rest of the bundle was only worth £10? And I replied that was their loss as they had the promotion on and at the time the xbox was worth £159.98, and after being told by one of their representatives that I would receive this amount I went ahead and bought a replacement from HMV, they are denying that they would ever refund the full amount and I'm fuming!
The situation has been left that the manager will go and see if my conversation on 21/12 was recorded but he said 'just because you got told this you won't get a full refund'!
Sorry for offloading but anyone got any advice on what I can do now?
THanks

Ok im going to ask the obvious, why didn't you ask for a replacement?0

what snake eyes said, but less politelyhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
As you bought it as part of a bundle they are within rights to give you what it was worth in that context. (Why would you expect more?) Otherwise people would be returning items all over the place to make a profit.
Yes its annoying you were given the wrong information but it doesn't mean they now have to honour that. All they have to do is either replace/repair the x box or offer a full refund , which they are in context of the bundle you bought. Did they offer a replacement? I would ask for that0 -

They don't do the Xbox 360 with 60GB anymore, so I couldn't get a replacement, and as it was a few days before Xmas I couldn't get it repaired before Xmas and as my son's presents were xbox games I thought I'd buy another which had guaranteed Xmas delivery so he had one for Xmas.
As I'd been reassured that I'd get £159 refunded I thought that was the best option. I did question the amount on the phone and mention the bundle but was told it didn't matter, the console was worth £159 when I bought it!
Since posting they have sent me another email to say I need to return the rest of the deal so I'll have to have a look for all the bits and bobs that came in the entertainment pack (a wireless controller and lego/indianna jones game) and FIFA 09 and send it back to them, which is bonkers as they'll just bin it all!
I feel very let down by them.0 -

That would make the value of the game and entertainment pack at £87.00, I dont know what price these sold at at the time but sounds about right for full price.
However you can bet your bottom dollar that if you had to return any of the other items Amazon would give you the same story and come up with what they consider the value to be.
It is not unreasonable that the OP should be refunded the replacement cost of the item that is being returned.0
