I bought a pc in Nov 08, and it stopped working a couple of days ago. I took it into the shop where I purchased it from and they said it was out of the 1 year warranty and I had not purchased extended warranty However the fault was major, the motherboard needed replacing. Is there anything else I can do or do I just have to pay for repairs?? this also involved buying new memory and new power supply.

You'd need to get an independent report stating that the fault was caused by poor manufacturing, then contact the retailer with that information...as they would then have a legal obligation to remedy the fault (i.e. repair).
One word of advice, if you go ahead and pay for repairs before this, you may not be able to get the cost back...so it's worth waiting.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
