Oh hun, you coulddo a degree even if you are deaf. The majority of lecturers would either give you a copy of the lecture notes or the slides would be on the uni site (I know my uni do this) and you could get help through the DSA (disabled students allowance, it is worth applying for) say for a scribe in case you miss stuff.

I do it all because I'm scared.
  • Hello

I know nothing about hearing loss I am afraid, I just wanted to say that DLA may be an option due to the now apparent "Communication problems" you are having. It is all very well saying you can speak and write but in real life people will speak TO you. I don't know about any of the rules regarding hearing aids and DLA but I would say give it a go.

I applied for DLA for my son and the forms are horrendous (well, I thought so), but do seek guidance if you decide to go down that route. I turned to the Citizen's Advice Bureau and my son got, what I believe, he deserves. A lot of his problems come down to communication, albeit for a different reason than yours.

You can still work and receive DLA as well so it's not trapping you.

    Best of luck,

    R x
  • PS you could maybe specialise in psychology/social work with deaf people, have you thought of that? There is nothing stopping you doing a degree and you will find you will get more support than ever. I have a couple of friends with different problems and they had dictaphones in their lectures and then they plugged them into their computers and a programme wrote the whole lecture out for them to read.
