Overdrawn....

Hello all, just a quick question.

Today I recieved a letter about being overdrawn. An telling me what charges I have.

What has happened is this :-

1.Put £200 CASH into my bank account on Friday.
2.Logged onto my online banking later that day and it shown as in my account so i transferred it to my savings account.

Apparently even though it was showing in my bank ONLINE on the Friday, it didnt actually go in my account till the Monday cause it was put into the account past the cut off point on the Friday.

Personally i think it is stupid an if the money wasnt going to clear till the Monday why have the money showing in the account ONLINE on the Friday.

I have spoke to them on the phone they are not interested.

Any help would be nice. Even if it says there is nothing I can do about it.

Thanks
Chris

There is nothing you can do about it. (more than you have already done)

Next time you pay cash in over the counter which you plan to immediately withdraw, ask them to confirm when it will actually clear to your account.

Or perhaps just ask to pay it into the savings account directly ;)

  • Ok thanks for the reply :)
  • I too was of the opinion cash clears immediately and if it was available for you immediately to transfer, I don't see how they can justify charging you on this occasion.

You have nothing to lose by calling again and requesting to speak to a manager. If you still don't get the charge/s refunded as a gesture of goodwill, I'd ask how to register a complaint.

Certainly there's no point at this stage trying to "reclaim", but if you're firm (but not rude) and insist on taking it further, I'm sure you'll find they do refund as a goodwill gesture one-off.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok - they know me here! :D
