Phoneing home from portugal

Hi
Any thoughts or tips on phoneing home from Portugal.I have a o2 contract with free mins and text but i assume these wont be valid from Portugal.So what would be the cheapest way for the Kids to phone and text the UK?

    Buy a PAYG SIM card when you get there. It should cost about 10 Euros. Look at https://www.optimus.pt or https://www.uzo.pt

    Copy your numbers from your SIM card to your phone, stick in the SIM card and your off.

    You can get them in supermarkets or Post Office.

    You can buy them in this country before you go but it'll cost about £30 that way.

    I think the Uzo site says (in Portuguese) 0.42 Euros to fixed lines and 0.46 to mobiles (0.21 and 0.39 at weekends)and 0.22 for text messages (all times)

    I couldn't understand the other one.
