I work half day today and as I was coming up our road I noticed a man knocking on doors.

A while later he knocked on ours. I didn't catch what company he was from, he didn't show me and id, but he flipped his folder as if that was ok. He said they put the gas and electricity supply to house (which we rent privately and he did know landladys name) and some had wrongly been put on a higher tariff and they needed to check. He said it didn't matter what company we're with as they supply it all. He wanted to know what our consumption and asked to see our bills. I explained that my husband dealt with it and we didn't receive bills as he did it on line, so he asked how much we pay a month, and I said I didn't know. I do, but I'd rather he was hanging around when my husband is here later!!

    No, dont let him in,
He is just touting for business,
He is lying if he says they supply it all.

Just say, thank you but we are happy with our present supply and politely shut the door. Serves the lying swine right.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

That's what I thought - the supply has been here for years surely!!!
I'm glad he's coming back later, I will let my husband tell him lol.

    Thank you!!!
  • Sounds like they are from Southern Electric? We have had several similar "visits" in the past claiming that they (the company) own the gas pipe coming into our house. As another poster has said, they are touting for business.

Told them I do not do business with cold-callers.

Ask him to write to you explaining exactly who he is and the reason he wants details of your gas/electric, and if he wants an appointment.

As soon as he sees your bill, he'll record your meter point reference number. With this information, he can then switch your supply to his company.

No, it sounds like a scam to switch you to another company.

If you want to switch, use a couple of comparison sites to find the best deal, links above this section of the forum
  • utility salesmen:mad: are nasty horrible little conmen who should be avoided at all costs.
