Microphone stopped working

I really hope someone can help me on this..... My mic packed up a few weeks ago, bought a new one still not working, another, still not working ! I've checked soundcard, downloaded new drivers, checked the jacks, been on the microsoft site a million times, googled it, burnt my Cat as a sacrifice to the microchip God :rolleyes: but nothing has worked. Does anyone have any ideas please (I've only got the goldfish left to sacrifice !)

Sounds obvious (excuse the pun:rolleyes: ), but have you gone to control panel>sounds and audio devices and had a play? You didn't mention it you see..

as above then click on volume tab then in device volume ,click advanced and check microphone is not ticked in the muted box and slider is not all the way down.

yeah, I think I spent most of last week in the control panel playing (at least that's what my Senior Domestic Manager said to me just before the rolling pin incident !)
Seriously though I did try everything (I think) in the control panel including the suggestion from culpepper but still no joy, it's really bugging me now :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
