Why has my sat nav stopped working?

I have Tom tom One XL Europe. When I plug it into my cigarette holder the green LED light comes on but the monitor won;t switch on. I haven;t dropped it or anything and I've driven with it plugged in to charge and still nothing.

Can anyone help or advise where I can go for help?

OH cought it for me Nov 2007 from halfords, he's obviously lost the receipt!

It's possible it might need a reset. What happens when you plug into your PC, assuming you have one with Tomtom HOME installed?

Still the same, lights up but monitor won't switch on. Have tried a pin in the reset button but it doesn;t feel like I'm pressing anything. Any other way of resetting it?

Maybe the pin's not long enough. Try a paperclip and you should feel it clicking in. Try opening a Tomtom support request to see if they can help, they're usually quite good.

TomToms are notorious for this. They drain battery even when turned off. When they go completely flat they refuse to turn on and need a full reset.

    To do this,
    1. Plug the unit in so the green LED is on
    2. Pop out the memory card
    3. using a paperclip hold the reset button for 10-15secs (some models require you to hold the power button at the same time)
    4. pop the memory card back in
    5. hold the power button down till the unit comes on (upto 5 seconds)
    6. leave it to charge
You may need to repeat this one or two times

The reset button is very "squidgy" so it may not feel like you are pressing it - as long as the paperclip is pushed in as far as it will go you will be pressing it

Eventually though the battery completely fails and a replacement is required. its a pretty easy job and replacements can be had fairly cheaply off ebay.

I keep a paperclip in the case for my tomtom for this very reason ;)

Sounds great, one query though, mine has no memory card in and never has. Should it have come with one. I've never bothered putting one in s I didn't know what the use was.
If my Tom tom isn't plugged into my cigarett lighter then it won't work full stop. I'm sat in work now wanting to try your advice so have had to plug it into my works computer. Will let you know how I get on.

If that still doesn't work I will have to think about buying another battery. Or opening up a support request as advised above.

Will let you know how I get on
  • well just tried that and still no joy.

    Will try their support request

    thansk
  • I had the same last year, had to take the hit and buy a new one, compared to the other ones on the market though like Navman, the Tom Tom has an amazingly clear layout, good luck though!!
