You can cook loads in it like stews and casseroles and puddings. Most libraries (and bookshops) will even have cookbooks that just have recipes for slow cookers. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

I have this slow cooker, paid the same a year past January sales and I can get a medium sized chicken in it no problem. Should you want to cook extra for freezing you might find it too small but I reckon its plenty big enough0 -

Hi Southpaw,
A slow cooker is a large pot set in a thermostatically controlled casing that cooks food very slowly. See the wikipedia definition here.
Because it cooks food slowly over a long period it is great for tenderising tougher cuts of meat and it's also useful to put on in the morning and return in the evening to a ready cooked meal. I use mine mainly for casseroles and soups, but they can be used for a wide variety of things. Have a look at The Complete Slow Cooker Collection to get some ideas of the things other people cook in them.

Have a look at the indexed collection here in the Old Style forum. From where you are now just scroll up a bit and you'll find a dark blue bar going across the screen, then click on "indexed collections" which is underlined and in yellow. There are lots of recipes in there for slow cookers, many invented by and then tried and tested by your fellow Old Stylers.
I didn't know this slow cooker was big enough to get a whole chicken into. Thank you Edinburghlass! I too think it'd be big enough for a family of four.0 -

a question (many thanks in advance for the answer) we have considered getting a slow cooker. i think i have seen some where that they use as much electric as a light bulb. so if you put it on in the morning would it be like leaving a light bulb on all day (i am thinking that 9.99 would be a bargain) what watt lightbulb would you think ?0
