providing an accurate meter reading my now will help be you will also need an accurate meter reading from when you moved in. Hopefully you gave them one at the time of switching.
Or you could lie and make one up and say you wrote it down on your initial paperwork0 -
I did give them a meter reading when we moved in, our landlord did the same when they moved out and they were with the same company so dont think we could lie about it.0

That should be fine then0

...The girl on the phone explained that at the 1 yr review they would look to recover any outstanding on the account within 14days and I would HAVE to pay it all. ...
Yes, unless you agree to the repayment plan agreed.
Lets do the maths.
You've been at the current address 10 months.
You've paid them £200 (10months x £20)
You've consumed £450 worth of energy.
So you use £45 on average every month, plus you'll need to pay back £25 per month to pay back the debt.
You'll need to offer them at least £70 per month which they should accept.
As you only receive £60 a month according to you - that'll be impossible to pay.
So, ask for them to install a prepayment meter, before they decide for you."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
eeek! even £70 a month is more than I can afford. I have a surplus credit of £90 in my water account so plan to ask them for this back and use it to pay against this gas amount which will help. Looks like Im hunting round for things to sell now...0

I assume you done the usually things to cut down like fitting low energy bulbs, draft proofing, loft insulation etc
I found wearing a thick jumper around the hosue I can get away with lowering CH down 1 or 2 degrees it all adds up0 -
I understand you don't want a prepayment meter, but they will give you much longer to pay your debt.
I had a simular problem some time ago and was able to repay a £200 or so debt at £5pw.
during this time i got used to budgeting with prepay and when debt was cleared i changed to ebico which saved money.
It is important to note that if they use legal measures to install a pp meter you will pay hundreds in costs,if you ask them before this stage it will cost nothing.0 -
If you are struggling just now my advice would be to see if you can manage a plan or borrow from someone to get through the next couple of months. After that arrange a PP meter. The reason is the PP meter will take up a lot more of your money just now( Winter) plus your debt which will make you struggle more.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
