  • It's a bit run down.Might be alright if you want to use it as a base for Llandudno, which is very nice.

    Hi Louisa,

Colwyn Bay is pretty much a ghost town these days, the tourist industry died off there ten or twenty years ago. There are a few places to go, and when the tide's out the beach is great, but unless you're talking about a day trip I'd look elsewhere.

Personally I'd recommend Llandudno which is only three or four miles along the coast and has much more to do and see. The problem as far as the Sun deals are concerned is that tourism in Llandudno is dominated by hotels, there are no big camp sites, so you probably won't find any Sun deals in the area. There are small sites dotted around but being a 'local' I've never stayed at any so maybe someone else could recommend one?

In terms of the Sun deals you're far more likely to find one in the Rhyl/Prestatyn area (Rhyl is about ten miles along the coast from Colwyn Bay). Rhyl is basically a mini version of Blackpool, it's loud, brash and dare I say it, downmarket! But it has got caravan camp sites, dozens of them in fact.

  • I wouldn't bother visiting colwyn bay. Conwy is very nice and very near to Llandudno. But the other seaside towns ( prestatyn, rhyl and colwyn bay) are well, to be polite, they're just not very nice. I would recommend Llandudno though.

thank you to both of you!

i will certainly take what you said on board and see how i get on with the sun deals!
  • Agree with everything above! Conwy is nice and it has the smallest house in britain, and very close by is a very nice cosy pub which I think is called The Liverpool Arms. Also there is the castle. xx

Colwyn Bay is a dump & always has been. have you thought of a campsite in Anglesey (if they're available)? Better base for the Caernarfon area too & the Lleyn Peninsula.

If the sun is shining there's no better pub on the planet than the Liverpool Arms. Buy some fish and chips from The Galleon chip shop, ask for your beer in a plastic 'glass' and sit on the Quay watching the world go by and fighting off the flying rats. You can't beat it.

There are other attractions in Conwy such as Plas Mawr (a renovated Elizabethan Town House), Aberconwy House (a medieval merchant's house), the Town Walls (unlike the Castle admission is free) and you can also go for a boat trip on the river.

Personally though I'd suggest staying in Llandudno (far greater choice of accommodation) and having a day trip, or two, to Conwy. There's an open top guided tour bus which runs between the two towns over the summer.

  • Mmmm, quite fancy that myself now!!!! :)
  • I agree - colwyn bay definately not worth going to - conway is lovely if you want to see the castle and a bit of history, Llandudno has lots more to do and a much better range of accomodation. Pwheli is nice and there a Haven there for family things and a nice little village - but over all I'd say Llandudno
    hope that helps
