Self Employed CV Advice

Hi everyone
This is more for info than anything else. If one starts a business - perhaps a shop I presume the day it opens as the first day of business. However they would have put in several months of business planning - marketing & research etc.
How would one usually show this on a CV. To state the business start date would make it look like there was a large employment gap, but to start an earlier date would be misleading!

It depends on the size of the gap, and how much of it was spent in building up to the opening of the business. You can't go overnight from nothing to opening, so time spent in preparation counts as part of the business time.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

As above. Obviously if there is a gap of say 5 years between leaving your last employment and opening the business it would look a little odd.
The day you open the business to the public doesn't always reflect the day the business was started, as already mentioned you need to plan the opening, secure finances, stock etc etc which can take some time.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
