before you go for an update .. please make sure that you go for stuff that you actually need.. or will need eventually in the future.. dont buy stuff you dont need ..
eg.. buy a mobo that supports dual core chips.. coz the old P4 chips arent compatible with the new mobos.. they have a diff pin pattern..
    and so on

Are you a complete idiot? you've clearly not read any of the thread since the OP has already bought components, finished their machine and is quite happy. you seem to have stumbled onto this site and seen fit to spam 5 threads in 5 minutes adding nothing useful and without actually reading any of them.

go away until you learn how to behave on a forum....

They are kept in a CD wallet that's been filed away in a logical place so if I need them again they are easy to find!

What are your thoughts on additional cooling? The mobo manual mentions over clocking loads which is tempting but another fan would be a good investment if I go down that route?

Iverclocking is a possibility but you do need to be careful. There are lots of guides on the net. If' you're careful you shouldn't fry anything. I'm not sure how good the E6300 is for overclocking and if you do decide to go for it be careful. You've bought the Eb6300 Pentium Dual Core, there used to be a processor called the E6300 Core 2 Duo which is not the same. Try and find a guiode that is specific to your motherboard and CPU combo if you can.

I run an old E4300 chip with a stock speed of 1.8GHz and have it overclocked to 2.7 GHz which is a nice boost. Some people get them much higher but I don't like to risk it too much.

Having siad that I doubt if you need need to overclock it, it should do everything you want. It will cost money to do it as generally you need a better fan then the standard CPU fan and extra case fans are a good idea.

Congrats on getting it all up and runnign as well.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Cheers BillScarab, thanks for your help too. It was actually fairly simple once I got into it, and the problems I found were more my fault then anything overly technical.

I'm thinking of leaving the whole overclocking thing until another time, I've run a few things since putting all the pieces together and nothing's being particularly strained so there's no point in pushing my luck...... plus I can't afford to buy it all again once it blows up!
