Getting a MAC Code from Tiscali without being disconnected?

Hello

I'm changing ISP's due to Tiscali's increase for broadband. A friend who was with them requested his MAC code and received it within a few days in the post. However, Tiscali disconnected him so he can't get online until the new provider is up and running.

I need to contact Tiscali today as the new increase is taking effect from tomorrow. I'm no longer in a contract with them as I've been with them for years. My Direct Debit is not taken out until the 1st of each month. I need my MAC Code to give to my new provider so should Tiscali not keep me connected?

Am just abit concerned that when I request a MAC Code they'll disconnect me as well?

wel if they try and disconnect you whilst you are still paying, I'm sure you will have legal recourse. I'm sure you will have to give xxx days notice of termination

As long as you just ask for a MAC (do not say 'I am leaving, send me a MAC and close my account') then they should not close it.
A MAC is purely a 30 day option to quit, it does not take effect unless you give it to your new ISP and then apply it.
Once your new ISP has put the migration through then it's wise to reconfirm with Tiscali that you have left and that they can then close your account.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Just wondering will they charge me the new price increase on the 1st February though? The letter says ....... Your new package will now give you up to 8MB Broadband for £19.99 per month and will come into effect from 14 January 2010.

£19.99 is indeed a lot for 8 Mb broadband, are you on a non LLU exchange?, I only ask as the Talk Talk essentials package ( which I would have thought you would be offered is only £6.99 + Line rental)
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Yeah I am penrhyn.

Just off the phone to Tiscali. Didn't say I was leaving just asked about the price increase etc and was told as from tomorrow I'm in a new contract with them. Silly me should have had this sorted a week ago

Have you agreed to a new contract at some point then? I have been with them 2 years, with a 12 month contract, so I would assume I can leave at any time i want now?

Depends if you've modified your package during that period.

Thats ok then, I have not, but it could have equally been Talktalk pulling a fast one, not known to be a good company.

No I haven't agreed anything with them. Just off the phone from them again. I asked if they'd send out my MAC Code - didn't say I was leaving them or anything, they said they'd send it out in the post. Was told that I'm not in a new contract with them. A previous person said I would be from tomorrow?
