Problems with LTSB Credit Card should we persist !

Bit of advice needed please and quite a long story.................

I have 3 credit cards (Capitalone Limit £1100, Vanquis Gold Limit £1500 and Aqua Limit £1200), have had these for over a year and always pay in full each month with no problems so far (Touch Wood). I also have my wife named as the 2nd cardholder on these accounts (Not that she uses her cards much).

Then in November she was offered a LTSB Duo Card (The Amex and Mastercard) with a £2000 limit, so she accepted and got the cards and added me as the 2nd cardholder on her account, but she is not very good on the phone and LTSB gave her the hard sell when she activated the cards which put her right off.

She then applied to have me made 'Power of Attorney' on the account which LTSB accepted and gave me a password, this way any problems etc on the account I could deal with, so last week after seeing the balance dropping I called LTSB (No problem speaking to me and verified me with password) to enquire and found that there were fraudulent Transactions on the account, put me through to fraud department who could see I had Power of Attorney but could not see a password !, but eventually verified me by other means, so cancelled cards etc.

This week new cards arrived so I called up to activate them to be told that 'Power of Attorney' does not qualify you to activate cards !, so I spoke to them first and told them I did not want any hard sell and the passed them to my wife to activate the cards which seemed to go quite well.

Now today the one fraudulent transaction has been wiped (It was for £1091) to be replaced by another for £116, so again I called up fraud and eventually got verified but they said that I would be easier if a password was set for me, I said it was but they said every department within LTSB is different and they don't all seem to speak to each other !, my wife has written a letter to ask for this to be done so we will see what they say.

Anyway point is that when I had (And still do have) my credit cards I never had any problems as I was my account and I could do anything, on this one it is more difficult as it is my wife's but I am trying to help her out as she is not very good on the phone and would go to pieces if she had to deal with fraud etc. So I guess what I am saying is do you think it is worth persisting with LTSB or going back to the way it was, I know fraud can happen to anyone and it's not the banks fault, and it is hopefully just a one off !.

Have been with LTSB for credit cards for nearly 20 years. Never had a problem with them - you're situation isn't exactly standard so I'm not entirely surprised there's a few hurdles to jump over.

LTSB is normally very good. Never had a problem with them. Excellent bank.

If it's fraud you are not liable. They will give you your money back. Just speak to the fraud team and get ALL the money back!
  • Are you sure you have POWER OF ATTORNEY or simply additional cardholder rights which means diddly squat in the case of any dispute?

Hope you manage to get it sorted out.

Hi, No its definitely 'Power of Attorney' as a solicitor had to do it and LTSB wanted the documentation and then sent a form for me to choose a password, they also refer to it as 'Power of Attorney' when I call, so I think it has been done right. I think it is just a few teething problems, which are hopefully a one off as I don't plan on having fraud again !, that said the woman that I did speak to in LTSB fraud department did say that it is impossible to avoid and that you would go mad trying to figure out how they got the details.

So all in all they have been as helpful as they could be, and I have never been refused access to the account which would have been worse.
