The only comment I would make is I cant fee how a rear end shunt would manage to severly damage the front of the car but not your husband.
Also you have a responsibility to minimise your losses. I.e dont go getting a 4x4 hire car unless you already have one.
Tbh I'd avoid the helphire type companies. If you have a genuine claim best dealing with it yourself or through non helphire insurance/legal cover.0
