That dress is beautiful!! I hope Landy get it to you on time. I posted a link somewhere on here for pumps, £12 from ebay, not a clue which thread it was but I'll have a look

link isn't working, it's called maggie boutique on ebay320003343_tp.jpg
  • Update time...

The Landy Dress arrived, more info about that when I get their partial refund.
Thankfully I have found a wonderfully skilled local seamstress who is adding some boning (to the sides and along the stays) and is taking in the dress. She's already fixed the hemline and has added some straps to it...Donna is brilliant, so glad I found her.

She did say that the quality of the fabric was great, just the execution of some of the minor things...like the lining length and ruching, was poor. But as she said, I could not have bought the material here in Australia for what I paid for the dress.
One recommendation I would make to anyone ordering from China, buy 2 metres of your dress fabric in addition to the dress, it will only cost about £10, but it means that if you have to alter anything, your seamstress can work in the exact same fabric as the original dress. I ordered a couple of metres with mine, originally to get cravats made for the boys and create straps for the dress and I am now very glad that I did as it has come in handy for the minor alterations Donna has to make.

Getting the dress back on Friday (Sydney time) so will have some pics then - sorry, I know that's annoying!

Bad news....if the Visa has not arrived by this Friday then we will have to postpone the wedding. Am completely gutted, but there is nothing we can do about the delays with the British Immigration Office in Canberra. It's hard enough being away from Jason (5 months now) without adding this horrid waiting to it...I just really want to come home.
Hopefully it will only be a delay of weeks, not months and then we can get married, settle down and live 'normally ever after'. Who knows, maybe my dress will be ready and the visa will arrive on Friday??? It could happen...right???

Now...where the hell are my tissues! rotfl...for someone who does not cry, I have been doing a whole lot of it this week. Sheesh...what a whinger! lol

Anyhow, am done with my 'woe is me' update for now - a massive thank you to everyone that has supplied me with info on the flowers and shoes, I really appreciate it.

How is everyone else's planning going??

  • Why does the visa take so long? Can you come for a holiday to get married then have the visa forwarded once it arrives? (sorry if that's a daft question - I don't know anything about visas!).
Fingers crossed it arrives and you don't have to postpone, although you're getting very close now aren't you?
Our planning is going ok, we are getting our rings made and got a call yesterday to say they are ready which is really exciting.

  • :j:j:j:jIT ARRIVED TODAY!!!:j:j:j:j
After postponing our wedding, my visa arrived by mail this morning!
    I AM GOING HOME!!!!

Unbelievably excited, cannot wait to see Jason, my flight is 3.50pm Saturday, Sydney time and I get in to Manchester at 6.30am on Valentines Day :heart::heart:.

Thankfully the castle and the old schoolhouse are both willing to transfer our bookings whenever we need them - at the moment, we should be getting married in mid March!

Sooooooooooooooooooooo happy and excited...have already packed my bags! :rotfl:

Almost forgot to tell you guys about the Landy debacle - NEVER AGAIN.
The lining of the dress was inside out, which had to be fixed - the hem of the dress was too short as they had not accounted for the ruching on the dress and the beading when they cut it and the bodice had to be taken in 2.5 inches ON EITHER SIDE so it looked good enough to wear.

Fortunately I took a very hard line with Landy and demanded a partial refund to the value of fixing their mistakes - I managed to locate a local seamstress who was incredible and did everything for under $200 AUD.
I added straps to the dress - in the pics you can see them unfinished but they're now completed.

All in all Landy didn't do a bad job, they just didn't do what I asked and paid for - so would not use them ever again. I don't think I could have bought the material here in Australia for what it cost for the dress itself - so any way I look at it, I got a bargain.

Another 5kg to go now and the dress will be sitting perfectly - the pictures do not do it justice as the flash is too strong. All in all, will be happy to get on the plane on Saturday with this in my suitcase...

Yes, the lining has turned over on the train in this pic...but it really is lovely.
You also can't see the beading on the 'bustle' as it's covered in this pic by the ribbon from the stays.

So - there you have it; am now very glad that I have a visa, 5 weeks to lose a few more kilo's and a plane ticket sending me home to my man.

    What a week!
