Creating audio CDs using WMP11

Hi all

I've got a problem creating a standard audio CD (not MP3) using WMP11.
It gets to the point where it's supposed to start burning and then give me an error saying it can't burn and to check the CD isn't dirty, etc.

At this point, the percentage complete is usually around 95%.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my DVD burner (it cured the last problem) but no joy.
I've also tried rolling back to WMP10 but it won't do that either (apparently the uninstall file is missing).

I've tried loads of different CDs from different maufacturers.

Anyone any ideas?

Have you tried any other burning software? I don't use wmp at all. CD Doctor is a prog that converts mp3's to cd format and then burns to cd disc.

wmp - windows media player or winamp?

I'd suggest trying different software, try download.com to find something

Just tried using Nero and burning at 8x (which is normal for me).
According to the log, I've got a "PMA update failure" whatever one of those is.

Just about to look it up on Google, but if anyone wants to add anything, feel free.

I've got the error log if anyone wants to see it.

Just as an aside (in case it helps), I can still burn DVDs using Nero.

I've seen something about uninstalling Windows Media Player 11, but can't do that either. It looks like it's doing it but all it does is remove the icon from the screen and shove it down by the start button.

Anyone?

You may have a weak laser on the drive, but I would expect to be able to burn CDs but not DVDs in that case. Even so, it may be worth giving it a clean.

I'll give it a try - but would that explain the PMA error?

Apparently, the PMA error means an incompatibility with the media. Since you have tried different media it might be the laser not being able to focus correctly, which is why I suggested a clean.
