12 month cash back phones?

Can anyone tell me what the current cashback offers are for mobiles?

I tried to get a phone through e2save a while back but ended up cancelling it, as the phone never arrived. So, I'd rather avoid them if possible?

I went into carphone warehouse today, as I was sure I read somewhere about them matching the offers online, but the best they could offer was a 12 month 1/2 price cashback phone.

Not at all fussed about what phone I get, more interested in the cashback offer!

Many thanks to you all in advance.

i have just taken out a 12 month contract with cpw (solid cashback record with 60 days to claim) on a motorola slvr l7 11 months free on vodaphone, itemised billing £1.50pcm (£18p.a.), and £35 for final month on vodaphone 275(275 mins/month, no texts:( ) via quidco(£30 back) so year shold cost £23! not bad for a new phone lots of mins and carphone warehouse reliability

    So, I am new here.

I have been with Orange forever and, when I called to cancel, I have been offered a good deal (New phone, 500mins, 250 texts for £25/month) to stay with them for another year.

Looking around to see what I could get for similar money I found this offer which looks, on the face of it, too good to be true. So the question is, is it? If they are throwing in the minutes and then giving me back the subscription money, where is their profit/cost of the phone coming from? Is there some catch or con to this? What should I be wary of?

    Thanks

    Chris

Hello :hello: They (the dealer - phoneboxdirect in this case) gets commission something like £200+?? from the network(s) that the customer is being connected to (commission and bonuses will vary from network to network and tariff connections) for each phone that they connect successfully. Add to this the targets set maybe by the company or the network. Upon reaching or surpassing these targets they will get a bonus. In order to reach these targets they will offer contracts with free line rental to get more people in so it's easier for them to reach the sales targets. This is where they get their profit. The networks aren't too upset about this because they get a “new” customer and they will hopefully be able to make money from the customer(s) if they use more than their inclusive minutes/texts/services etc. They also make extra money from bolt-ons or bundle packs or premium rate numbers etc... The networks are also hoping that the customer says with them and becomes a long-term customer.

The customer has to claim back off the dealer and not the network usually in different times of the year by submitting a claim form and sending in a copy of the bill. Sometimes people forget about the claims so they miss out. Some say that if they miss one, the others become void and not eligible to claim the others (if there are any left to claim). You have to make sure you follow ALL their T&Cs (in some cases they can be contradictory/confusing or plain unclear) to successfully claim your cashback.

Most dealers are genuine, I think there have been companies set up (i.e. doing cashback deal schemes) and then once they sign up xxxx amount of customers and maybe get their bonuses they usually go bankrupt or closed down (something like that), basically a con just to make quick money in my opinion. The result is that many customers will become angry as they were hoping for say 12 month free line rental but this won’t be the case now because the company has closed down and so they can’t send their claims to get back their money, for effectively free line rental for a year. These companies are usually small.

[FONT=&quot]If your are thinking about doing cashback deals, stick with larger companies such as Carphone Warehouse, The Link, as these should be around when you come to claim your cashback (not guaranteed but more likely than smaller companies just set up to make quick money leaving customers angry and in the lurch). :) e2save seems to be a favourite on here, Mobileshop is ok (slow on the repayments though). I have a contract with Phonebox Direct and Cool New Mobile (both owned by the same company). I got my cheque for my second claim quite quick. Make sure that you try and research for reviews or comments for the potential company that you will be dealing with. Make sure that you can afford to go on the chosen tariff and follow all the T&Cs as mentioned before and you should be ok to get your cashback. By going through cashback sites such as Quidco, rpoints you can sometimes be paid to have the contract for the year (as well as buying other things online), depending on the offer you choose. :j

This is very good advice, remember that subsidiaries of CPW like OSPS and E2save? have very different cash back schemes. So read the small print and get organised.

This is not helped by the fact PCW does all the product delivery for its subsidiaries.

Before if you got a phone from OSPS it would be a network phone locked to the network and a contract SIM. The advantage of this is that you got the no qibble networks return terms. The downside the phone was locked to the network.

Now CPW ship all the phones for OSPS, so you get a generic unlocked phone, well I did 3 times, which is great. But you get CPW returns offer which in my case was not as good as orange. But I was happy with the phones so no problem. The cashbacks are run by the subsidaries, not CPW. BUT THE PAPERWORK FOR CASHBACKS IS SENT OUT BY CPW. I was send the cashback paperwork for e2save not OSPS! I did not no as the paperwork was not branded! I called to check the address for the cashbacks as it was NOT the same as OSPS from last year. Only then did I realise I had the wrong paperwork. OSPS say you must report missing paperwork in 14 DAYS of getting the phone!

The windows for OSPS is 30 days, 2eSaver is more rigid. CPW seems the most liberal.

It is worth keeping a file with all the paperwork a calander with dates and preprepared letters, evelopes etc.

Send items record (not special) if lost you have proof and can fax the paperwork (I did this once for OSPS) then they found the paperwork! Only costs £1.

Send one claim per recorded delivery evelope costs a bit more but that is what OSPS told me.

Finally call them after a few days to check progress and call back if there are issues.

I have not missed a cashback (yet!) from OSPS but remember that dates are from connection date not number of bills for OSPS and use the geographic number to call and Quidco to order.

  • If your buying phones on the web see if you can find a dealer that also has high street stores to service the customer.
I personally would always buy in store as returns and repairs are free and no hassle.
https://www.fonehouse.co.uk is where i got my E900 last week as they have a shop on my High Road.
I prefer to get a freebie, I can sell than to remember cashback claims. If I was organised enough to claim I would be organised enough to not get into debt in the first place! I got an ipod and sound dock.
