Is it tempting fate...

My Dad was confused why I was already 6 weeks pregnant even though I'd just found out .
Don't buy for baby, buy for yourself, it might be you last chance :rotfl:. I find it incredibly hard to do Agutka shopping when everywhere there's Joseph shopping to be had. I refuse to buy anything for the new baby, even though I'm already 24 weeks and know the sex. Haven't even looked in the loft for any squirelled away goodies from last time. I have plenty of time - I know it won't be as hectic as last time when we just HAD to re-furb the whole house. That was ridiculous. The new baby will be lucky I make up his bed in advance
Enjoy the pregnancy, lol:wall:0 -
superstition or believing in good/bad luck is a very personal thing, only you knw wether you will fell alright about buying things now...
when i was pregnant for my first i was determined not to buy anything too early but saw a gorgeous long eared bunny toy that i had visions of a gorgeous toddler dragging around by one ear... so i bought it, that night i was in a cold sweat worrying about wether i was tempting fate so i put it in a drawer and decided it wouldnt come out again until that baby was born,
I didnt buy anything else til i was about half way but even when the house looked like a regional branch of mothercare and we had e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g but the baby, that bunny stayed where it was until my DD spent her first night in her cot!
not like me at all.... but i think my hormones took over
everything you need will go on and off offer several times before your baby comes, you buy it when you want it!0 -
I bought stuff and hid it in a cupboard. Then I told a close friend where it was so that if the worst did happen, she would quietly get it out the house for me.
Later on you will get a LOAD of vouchers for boots baby club, a newborn huggies pack etc.
Never bought nappies etc in bulk, I found I had to change brand a few times to find one that suited. Bought a small pack of tesco newborn and a small pack of premature (there was a good chance they would be needed) and then a small pack of pampers later on to get the free boots changing bag. I got a voucher for huggies newborn also. Ended up using huggies so the rest of the nappies were passed onto a friend.
Saving money is a better idea right now. Having had 2 unexpectedly early babies it was very handy to have cash set aside to send others out to get tiny baby clothes and nappies and whatever else I had forgotten/needed as well as to cover fuel.
Best of luck for the pregnancy!0 -
Just wanted to say that Sainsbury's have the 1/3 off baby stuff promotion every few months, so plenty of time still to stock up.
Also, if you sign up to their baby club (as well as the Tesco one, the Boots one, etc etc), they'll send you money-off vouchers, which you combine with the 1/3 off. :money:

I don't think that it matters whether you buy things now or later, what will be will be. I think it makes sense though to shop around and when those bargains are on take advantage and buy.Love a charity shop bargain0

I dont think its tempting fate. I bought baby stuff with my last pregnancy and miscarried, but i dont belive its cause i bought baby stuff, it just wasn't meant to be.
When i got pregnant again i only bought a few small bits before 12 weeks, but still had all the other stuff i had bought before. And now im 32 weeks.
People say you have ages to get stuff ready, but now all of a sudden im having a baby in 7 and a half weeks and im still not ready! lol

I don't think it's tempting fate, but I can understand why some people might worry about it. I know if it was me I probably wouldn't be able to stop myself buying things!
Enjoy and CONGRATULATIONS :j :j

I really dont think people are actually scared of "tempting fate" or connecting buying things with a miscarriage,
i think its just that if something does go wrong then a house full of baby stuff which can be difficult to look at / deal with could have been avoided,
My best friend lost a baby and had already signed up for every freebie going, it was a reminder in the post for months and months that she really didnt need.
its the same as "should you tell people your pregnant before you have your first scan" well i did... but they were the people that i would have told if something had gone wrong anyway, its all very personal0 -
I'm just under 7 weeks pregnant and I know how tempting it can be, but I am trying to hold off for now.
I went to Mothercare last weekend and had to stop myself!!
I've compromised in my own mind by just buying bits a bobs for my sisters 7 month old baby instead.
I agree with the posters who have said that it would be more distressing should anything go wrong to have loads of baby-related stuff around the house, rather than believing that it is somehow tempting fate.
No harm in being excited though:j
Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I have an idea for you instead of buying things and having the issue of storing them for so long. Instead of purchasing nappies and things now, why not put the money in a jar instead so you are spreading the cost. As everyone else said there are always deals on nappies and other baby items. Congratulations and best wishes.Signature removed for peace of mind0
