Playing others on Xbox Live

Hi all, long time no post !

Sorry, am new to this lark... Have set up Xbox Live for my son, presuming that he could somehow attract 'friends' (strangers!) to game with ?! Now it looks as though he has to invite friends that he already knows, presuming they have Xbox Live themselves ?! Well, not knowing many friends himself, is there a way of attracting or searching for new online friends to play with ?

Thanks for any advice

My 13 year old says you just sign into your Xbox Live profile, go onto Xbox Live version of whatever game you're playing, and you should be able to join an online game. One of the options is Find Game, another Join Game.
  • If he wants just to play with other people then yes, the previous poster is right - go into the game and go to the Xbox Live section (usually available at the main menu or in the multiplayer menu) and join a game & play.

If he actually wants to add friends on Xbox Live, then he will have to meet them first - this can be done through speaking to them in the game, joining a clan, joining a game-specific forum etc etc.

You make gaming contacts and friends as you go along playing games online...

As the others have said, things work the other way round on Xbox Live...You don't make friends then play together, you play together then you become friends. So just stick any game in, play an online game, then if you get chatting etc add them to your friends list.

Sports games are generally better for this than, say, first person shooters - something where it's 1 on 1, you actually get a chance to chat as you're playing, rather than just yelling "yo, I fragged yo !!!, mofo!" at one another...

get him to ask his friends if they've got an XBox Live membership, and for their GamerTag.

Alternatively, there are options to search for an XBox Live profile from your EMail address book, or from your Facebook friends.

as said above, you don't have to have friends to play online, you can just go to the Find Game option on any game he's playing.
