Paying in cheque in partner's name to joint account

I am pretty sure I can do this but I wanted to check

if I go into my branch of Halifax to pay in a cheque made out to my partner into our joint account, will they let me?

I don't have a debit card for that account but I know the account number and I have ID. Can they refuse?

Cheers
Kavanne

No reason why they should decline. I've certainly paid cheques payable to the OH into our joint account .. via Halifax. They do normally use your Debit card to swipe the account open ..... but writing the Roll number on the back of the cheque is the 2nd best option?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

If the name on the cheque matches one of the names on the account then there's not the slightest reason for them to refuse. Who is doing the paying in is irrelevant - it could be anyone.

You don't need ID - they don't care who's paying money into the account; it's only if you try to withdraw that they'll need ID.

As long as it's an account that you can manage in branch, then you'll be fine, with either the roll number (starting D/ or 2/) or account number and sort code.
