Are you talking about averages taken over all price ranges going up? Isn't that because, as the ESPC pointed out last month, there's been more houses selling in the higher price ranges, and less in the lower, hence the 'average' goes up?
Look at each £100k price band to get a truer picture.....0 -

I agree. Why mention Rightmove, when I didn't, and nobody else did?0 -

I don't know how well you know the area but have you considered East Renfrewshire? Parts of it are minutes away from Shawlands - some very desireable areas such as Newton Mearns. I may be wrong about this, but my understanding is that prices dropped much lower out that way and they're recovering more slowly. It might be worth a look.
I don't think I've ever heard of a cheap house in Newton Mearns!
The area (NM, Clarkston etc) does have excellent links to the city centre tho as well as being a bit more in the countryside. The motorway is very close, and the train only takes 20 minutes or so.
Other than the south side areas you've mentioned, north side places like Anniesland and (parts of) Knightswood are nice and are definitely cheaper than the West End proper, but are only 5 minutes along Great Western Road.
The West End is a great place to live, but as OP said it's pricey. Depends on which areas you go for, and what type of property you're after, just how much of a premium you pay tho. Yorkhill and Partick (for example) are marginally cheaper, but prices are bumped up by Glasgow Uni being right in the middle of the area.
Also I would second Poppy, s1homes is a good site for Scottish properties.0 -
Thanks.. I have a few viewings arranged for this afternoon and early evening (heading out the door now!) so all of the above has certainly been useful with regard to the next step if one of the places appeals.0
