disability benefits and profit from home sale

Options
Hi all, I have progressive MS and on DLA, IB and Income support. Have just sold my shared ownership flat and am moving into sheltered housing - rented.

I've got over £6k savings and will make about £16k. I'm spending money on 'improving my new home' - new furniture etc and a mobility scooter. Also of course I have moving expenses and solicitors' fees etc.

However I'm still going to be over savings threshold for benefits (although I can still claim some if I have under £16k is that right...and Housing benefit threshold of £10k??)

My question is, can I gift any money into my grandson's (aged 4) trust account?

What else am I allowed to spend the money on?

Many thanks for any advice. DAFT situation of having too much money. 1st time in my life...and no doubt the last!!!

Pat

No, you cannot. This will be seen as deprivation of capital.

If you need further information you would be best to post on the Benefits board, where you are more likely to find benefits specialists.
    Gone ... or have I?

Why is it daft to have too much money?

I'd be :j that I wouldn't have to fill in any more forms so that busybodies know the ins and outs of everything.

Enjoy the money, I hope you can treat yourself to something nice.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

I am on DLA having been diagnosed with a serious life threatenin illness. I was in a very senior position for which I had worked extremely hard to gain the qualifications ect. I am currently trialling new treatment and feel that it is working. If I continue to improve can I return to work initially ten hours per week and still claim my DLA. I am concerned that if I have the treatment does provide long term improvements and I deteriorate again and have to finish on ill health grounds that I will have to reclaim. I have read on the direct.gov website that it is possible to work and claim DLA - is this correct?
    Did: 5/9/17. Total repaid £70000!!!!!:T
    Mortgage 1/9/2017 34000:eek:

Yes you can work and claim DLA.
I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!

Rich people tell you that money doesn't bring you happiness just so the poor people don't feel jealous.

No, you can't gift the money to anyone, and you are way over the limit. You can't get money and say that you need it to do this that and the other because as a benefit claimant your finances with the authorites come before anything else.
Its defrauding the system and all the people who pay their taxes. I can't believe you want to scam people like this.
