BT Contract

I recently moved home, and made the mistake of starting up a new BT landline separately from cancelling the old one.
I had been using the old line for a total of 21 months after signing a 12 month contract, so assumed I was on a rolling contract (similar to when a mobile runs out).
However, unbeknownst to me (as I did not read my communications carefully enough), BT renewed my 12 month contract last March for a further 12 months. I have therefore been charged a "disconnection" fee of 18 pounds.
Do I have any redress over this, as it does seem unfair when I'm bound by a contract I didn't even sign... And does anyone know a way I could save by merging the old contract with the new one?

You must have signed a contract (whether by physically signing something, or ticking an 'I agree to the terms and conditions box' on the website) so you're not bound by a contract you didn't sign - you're bound by a contract you did sign! All you need to do is observe the conditions you agreed to, and you won't be charged a termination fee.0
