Tax credit calculation help

Hi
Can anyone tell me how they work out the reduction for income for the family part of tax credits.
I cant find a formula anywhere and rung the helpline only to be told they input the figures and its worked out automatically, but some one somewhere must have told the computer how to do it.
How can I check its right if I dont know how to do the calculation.
I can find it for the working tax bit but not the family bit of it.
Hope this makes sense.

family element will in 99% of claims, will be £547 pa if the income is approx £25k - £52k, then it reduces by approx 37p in every pound over that higher limit. no family element at all once income exceeds £60k (increased for some this year due to new allowances)fatblokexl:EasterBun:0

It's the same as for the working part, if you already know how to do that just take the balance off of the child tax part0
