If you're looking for a gym to work out in the new year. I'd recommend that you look at Lifestyle Fitness. I joined the one on Deansgate, Manchester last year, it's just £19.99 per month and the gym is better than Virgin Active where I was a member before and paying £50 per month. They're not just a standard budget gym like Pure Gym, the clubs are so much better. The website is lifestylefitness.co.uk, they've got loads of new gyms around the country and you can get a free pass on their website.0

Yes, seems to be a good price, now from £10.99 a month if there's one near you.Signed up with these guys last year, great gym, great equipment, open 24hrs for only £14.99 p/mth - they are called "TheGymGroup".
PS - they don't have many branches nationwide yet.

Has anyone ever had any joy haggling with Nuffield Health over gym memberships? I really want to join a gym and my nearest ones are Nuffield or Virgin Active. The cost of both is pretty similar, but Virgin won't budge on cost. If Nuffield were willing to, I'd probably sign up with them.0

Prices listed on the article are wrong. I tried to go to Simply Gym and it is £6 not £4 as MSE suggest. So I checked the others too by calling, most are right but Fitspace is not £5 it is £6.
Useful article overall, great advice, but disappointing when you try to act on the advice and find it is not right. Hope this helps!0 -

You can get a monthly recurring contract (1 months notice) with Virgin at half price - £35 instead of £70 which also allows multi club. This is done by taking out a Pru Protect life cover. Or looking at it another way you can get £35 of life cover for free with a Virgin Gym membership - contact for details0 -
I was looking for a local gym, came across searchgym.co.uk and brought a pass, was able to use the gym the same day! They have some really good deals.. so couldn't resist, now time to get fit for the summer :P Does anyone know if its the same process on PayasUgym??0

I had a good deal on gym membership because I had opted into a price for life membership some time ago. When I renewed last week I was told this was the last time I could renew at that price. I had it seems wrongly assumed life to mean life.
My question is can I hold them to the deal. What is the legality? As I see a number of other gyms are now also offering price for life deals, but if they are not enforceable they are worthless.0 -
Anyone had problems with Virgin Gym? I cancelled my membership online on 3 Jan - they are now conveniently claiming not to have received it and saying I am due to pay until 31 March, leaving me £80 out of pocket. Apparently I must be lying because they have never had an issue with their online system before, which I find hard to believe. Anyone had a similar issue?0 -
I've tried a hole range of cheap gyms, I used PureGym which was alright but nothing wow about it. Then I decided to give 247fitness ago since they've got a gym really close to where I live. They are pretty goon when it comes to gym membership price, at the moment am paying only 17.95 per month which i think is pretty good. If anyone is interested have a look at their page0

Thinking of joining The Gym Group (Vauxhall). Reckon I've worked out one way they keep their costs down:
Customer Service Agent: We're sad to see you leave our website. Is there anything you need help with? Please ask us.
You: Hi - I'd like to try your gym on a 24 hour pass, but I've never used a gym before so would want to do an induction as part of the 24 hours. Can you tell me days / times of inductions at Vauxhall in the next 2 weeks, and how I can book one as part of my trial? Thx
Customer Service Agent: Flexibility is important, that’s why the majority of our Gyms are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Gym Group has applied for 24/7 opening hours at all sites, but currently there is one exception to 24/7 opening hours:
1. The Gym Newcastle East – 6:30am – 11pm, 7 days a week.
Every Gym is monitored via extensive CCTV coverage 24/7 with direct links to the emergency services. In addition to this, The Gym will be staffed 8am-8pm (Mon-Fri) and 10am-5pm (Sat & Sun).
You: No - I mean the trial pass for £5 which gives me 24 hours to try the gym. I want to try Vauxhall (London).
Customer Service Agent: Yes, you can trial The Gym before you buy, by signing up for our 5.00 daily membership here. Daily membership is valid for 24 hours on the day of your choice.
You: So going back to my question, how do I book a gym induction for during my 24 hour trial at Vauxhall? As I've never used a gym before.
