The OP's Son could probably buy a brand new Kia ( 7 year warranty ) or Hyundai ( 5 year warranty ) for less money than a 2 year old VW.
    .

Sadly a Kia or Hyundai doesnt have the same kudos as a Golf for a 28 year old bachelor :)
  • Can you think of any car that will definitely not break down? I cant - surely it is worth trying to mitigate the risk of an expensive repair bill - the only question is whether the cost of that mitigation is going to be value for money.

Its like insurance - you pay hundreds of pounds per year and most of the time never get any benefit but its not money wasted because you'll be glad you had it if something happens.

I can think of many cars that are unlikely to break down - most of the cars for sale today.

Warranties are nothing more than scare tactics designed to part the scared from their money.

Sorry I thought peace of mind and reliability were on your agenda in the OP.;)

No mention of " kudos "..

Sadly new VW's are not made of the same stuff as the old ones.

Maybe, but have you driven a Kia or Hyundai? lol

Yes I have in fact, I had a Kia Ceed out on a 3 day free trial a couple of years ago, it was fantastic, I was highly impressed with it.

    Have you driven one?

Fair enough, I was only suggesting a financially viable alternative.;)

Which cars are they then? You only need to look at the Honest John website to see that pretty much every car has its problems - some more serious than others.

I dont think I've ever owned a car that hasn't had something go wrong with it even if it was only something minor.
