BT Contract Ending...

Hi,

My BT contract for Broadband and Telephone has now ended. I had an e-mail from them saying they would phone some time next week. I am currently paying:

BT Total Broadband Option 1 - £12.75 (I have already recieved 2 disocounts off the original £17)

BT Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan - £0.00 (As I signed up a contract)

Internet Security - £3.50

Line Rental - £10.50

Do you think that there is any room for negociation here? I would like to stay with BT and I can't get any others in my area. Any tips for me would be appreciated?

Thanks,

If they can extend your current deal onto a rolling contract then I'd say you were onto a winner. You can get cheaper BBand though, use the UTILITIES/PHONES tab at the top of the site to go to the BBand comparison checker :D

You might be able to get the broadband down to about £7.50/month by agreeing to a new 12 month contract. Don't accept their first offer if the price is higher than that, tell them you're going to look around a bit further and will get back to them.

The advisor will probably then ask you to hold while they speak to their manager (yeah, right) and should then come back after a couple of minutes with the best deal available.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Cheers. I was wondering if maybe they might bundle in the internet security but another discount on the broadband would be great! The last few times, they have offered me things like free printers for singing up to a 18 instead of 12 months contract. Do you think these would be worth a go?
    Thanks,

Its called "BT NetProtect" and it gives me Norton Internet Security (which is only included with option 2 and 3).

I know that I could get a free one but I trust Norton and they do a good job.

It is charged to my Electron (I know, its a recurring DirectDebit, but i used to pay via my BT Bill but you can't do that anymore) from "Click&Buy" (never heard of them).

EDIT: Just found details http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25811 but it says McAffee, anyway I have Norton.

You can certainly get Post Office phone where you are. And you have a choice of several dozen ISP's offering the ADSL broadband, regardless of whether you are with PO or BT

For clarification, and it is an important difference -your contract ISN'T 'coming to an end'. It will continue until YOU cancel it. What you mean is you;ve completed your minimum term period, which is quite a different perspective.
