What are YOU doing to ensure safe driving in snow/ice

Lets say you are on a single carriageway road, in normal conditions its safe to proceed at 60mph leaving 2 seconds between you and the car in front. How would you drive if the road was covered in snow and slush?

Either get a set of BF Goodrich's, or General Grabber AT2's. Not only will it help him in the snow, but also in the mud that will invariably follow the thaw. Have an L200 that has been excellent all winter, and it's wearing the AT2's. The Bridgestone Duellers fitted as standard are great... on the motorway. Pretty poo when off the beaten track though.

i also read your first post where you recomend making sure tyre pressures are at the correct pressure, by this i assume the recommended pressure for normal conditions. if you loose a few psi it can assist in gaining traction so correct manufacturers pressure doesn't always apply in ice and snow.

even though this theory may be true, by deflateing the tyre's pressure may help in snow covered untreated streets. those that have been treated will have slush on covering the pot hole's or debris on the main roads beaware you cause a puncture to the tyres or damage tyre walls.

If you think you're going to lose control on ice, get the clutch down and keep steering.

Regarding handbrake turns, I pulled one in a car park, got a 135degree turn, got 45 deg of opposite lock on and exited sideways last week. Drew a cheer.

if i took your advise im sure i would have been sacked by now,sorry boss but the roads are still too bad so i can't go anywhere for the 4th week running.

I have been keeping a couple of bits of carpet in the boot to use as traction if wheels can't grip.

I don't have a boss, I have nowhere to be and anywhere I do need to be when the weather is bad I can walk there.

It's not bad advice if you don't have to be anywhere

yes people that time of year is coming!! do your cold weather vehicle checks ready for the frost/snow. de-icer, bat tests,tyre checks tread and pressure,coolant checks, wiper blades,car heaters/demisters. spark plugs oil level. only takes a few mins to ensure that your car and you are ready for this winter dont get stranded because of a flat bat. allthough having a warm jacket or blanket in the boot helps in these cases!
