pre-payment meters

Yes there is (though it may be implemented as a two-tier tariff rather than as a daily standing charge.) But whether there is a charge or not makes no difference to the effective total cost 97 times out of 100.
Indeed, rather bizarrely, one of their tariffs (Click Pay as you go) uses both methods - 35p* per day for gas implemented with a two-tier tariff and 17p* per day for electricity as a daily standing charge!!! (Although this is a fair way to do it - since the two-tier gas gives you the opportunity to save on the effective standing charge over summer.)
* Actual amounts will vary by region.0 -

Could be the meter charges this weekly / standing charge, but the tariff you are on doesn't so when you get your statement the difference between the amount you have put in the meter, been used on the meter and the actual BG cost will be shown, either bringing you in credit and getting a refund cheque or maybe slightly in debt and owing a little. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Just to add to the above:
Some tariffs have explicit standing charges
e.g. the click one Kim mentioned, but also all E7 tariffs.
If you are Standard single rate as Joyful says you can change your meter to a lovely new greyish-white one.0
