sightsavers

Hi, I've seen the advert on tv for this charity and would like to donate something, was wondering if anyone can confirm it is a well recognised charity and the money goes where they say.

TIA

I've known their name for years, they have been around for 50+ and they are UK registered. My head's not in the right place for reading their accounts atm so can't comment on their spending patterns. Sightsavers

I have donated for years. They used to send me a lovely magazine / big leaflet every quarter detailing their work, but I switched to quarterly emails to save their printing costs.

If you are interested, PM me your email address and I will forward one on!

The Sunday name for Sightsavers is the Royal Commonwealth Institute for the Blind, which Im sure you have heard of.
Their 2008 annual report and accounts is a model of clarity and gives full info on what they planned to do and what they achieved. Brilliant format - just what I try and get my clients to do!
In 2008 they had income of £101.5 million and spent £92.3 million on charitable activity, which you cant argue with. They only have free reserves of £5.6 milion against annual outgoings of £100 million, so they spend their money.
£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths
