whinge about offers on fresh produce

Is it only me that won’t buy products if I only want 1 item and they are on a BOGOF, 3-for-the-price-of-2, etc offer? Strange really, as if the item wasn’t on any offer I would no doubt pay the same price as if I bought just one of the item without the additional stuff I don’t need (I am talking in particular about fresh produce that can’t be frozen). Unless I have a real urgent need for the item, I will either buy something else or go to another shop. My current whinge is about Tesco’s 3-bean salad. It is on a permanent offer of buy 1 for £1.99 OR 2 for £3.00. As I am the only one who eats it in our house and I can’t manage to get through 2 packs in under a week (without being extremely anti-social!), I just refuse to buy it. Why can’t they just b***. well reduce the price of a single package??? I end up going to M&S and paying full price for one of their bean salads (except when they’re on offer of course...)

It's frustrating but the reason is obvious.
I have to say that seems to be an odd target to highlight - surely the bean salads are mix and match with other pots at least one of which the others would share? And two pots can be kept a lot longer than one week, particularly when the second one is unopened - be guided by your nose not the label.
But I do agree. Multi-buys are frustrating.0 -
Tesco are just the worst for this, I could never get through the amount of oranges they try to shift, so I just don't buy em, and they normally go off 3 days later anyway. Same with their mouldy old tomatoes and cucumbers.
In fact, the cost of their fresh produce varies so wildly I try not to shop there at all any more. For instance, iceberg lettuce, was 50p before christmas, now it's 98p!! wild rocket, was 90p, now 1.20...etc. They must think we were born yesterday. And those weren't offers, those were the actual ticket prices. Maybe if they weren't giving away so much food in BOGOFs, they could afford to lower prices across the board...
Gotta say, Lidl is much better value for fresh food I find, no silly promotions just low prices, and their staple products are actually much better than tesco's own brand (eg spicy potato wedges from Tesco are nearly always mouldy! Yeuch!).0 -
It always frustrates me when a product I usually buy is on a BOGOF, meaning it goes out of stock almost instantly.0

Looks like we should expect to see iceburg lettuce on offer at half price at Tesco soon!

I remember Martin had a blog about this a while ago - the bags of oranges 2 for £1.50 or something and how he refused to buy the extra pack cos it would just get wasted.
I'll have a look for the link.
It's only a game

Would it not make sense then to go shopping with a friend or relative and make the most of the offers you will use? This way you can get all the bogofs you want and only pay half price and less wastage.

not really fussed....if I really really want the item I'll just buy it and not get the second, cheap one. Otherwise I'll buy a substitute that's on an offer i can take advantage of, ie something which keeps well or that I'll use quickly. My life is too short to walk to a different shop to buy it for what's probably a higher price

Wasn't there some kind of rumbling late last year that the supermarkets were going to be offering you a voucher for the second of a BOGOF item if you didn't want it straight away, so you could collect it on a subsequent visit. Clever ploy - make sure the customer returns, to get their "free" item! Chances are they won't be leaving the store with just that item!
Maybe they're about to introduce that.
Not sure if it was just one of the supermarkets, or all of them.
