Hi guys
Have any of you used a 'paper potter'? They seem a fantastic idea and obviously I want to recycle as much as possible (currently saving old toilet roll tubes for planting my beans)
If you have used one, are they any good?
Thanks
Gx

Is this something that makes newspaper pots for you?
Can be done just with a glass, fold a whole sheet of newspaper (so 4 pages) in half and then half again.
Wrap around a glass and tuck the ends into the glass. Can use different sized glasses for different sized pots.
Pull the paper off and turn the glass over and shove back in so the bottom of the glass squidges the paper down to make the base of the pot.
There are lots of other methods on the net as well, so if I was you I would save your money for other stuff.
good luck

Ali's way with the glass's is what you want, works a treat.
I can't do it though, my OH has to do it for me

Despite having bought a kit to make these some years ago, I now just wrap newspaper around a jam jar then fold the ends over before standing them all in a seed tray. They stand upright if you pack them close together. The paper potmaking kit I bought is a bit more complex than the usual ones you see, you had 2 templates, one for the sides & one for the base and you had to cut these out of newpaper, then soak them in water, before forming around the pot shaper, then put them in another sort of plastic thing to get a good shape. The pots were excellent, dried out a bit like thin papier mache, but it's messy work, your hands get freezing and as plants aren't going to be in there for long, I find it's easier just to use the old jam jar method.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

I use a paper potter, I make 500+ pots with mine each year
i sit and do it whenever i have 5 spare minutes, and store them in a bucket
i didnt like toilet roll tubes, they took longer to break down
my son brings home a metro paper each day, and so i use that
i love my paper potter, and have bought a couple as gifts0 -
I have a wooden paper pot maker and love it BUT the pots aren't very wide in diameter.
I shall certainly use that method posted above with the video link for wider pots for bigger seeds. Thanks!0 -
I use a baked bean tin and a soy sauce bottle for thinner (root trainer type) pots. I also use a bit of masking tape around the pot to stop it falling apart as this decomposes in the soil too. It saves loads of money making your own pots0
