Hi, has anybody got any reference points for the above (which will be about 4-days cover for a trip to France) in respect of a car first registered in 1993 - but still going strong? Nearest I can get so far is to take out an annual policy and cancel it on return when it hasnt been used. Sounds a bit naff to me! Any ideas will be very welcome.

    Hi there,

Sorry to see that no-one has replied to your question(s).

Firstly, you won't get away with cancelling an Annual european breakdown cover policy after the start date of your trip - you have a 14 day cooling off period, but as soon as you use it you cannot cancel it.

Regarding single-trip policies, you have many options. Obviously you need to ensure they will cover the age of your vehicle, which is 15+ years. I am not sure of many who do this, but worthwhile looking at the following:

    (i) AA
    (ii) RAC

Cheaper alternatives, so check insurance details thoroughly (though they seem to use Green Flag and Mondial as the assistance companies - GF & Mondial have a good reputation) :

(iii) European Breakdown Cover - Single Trip
(iv) European Breakdown Cover - Single Trip

Typically, you need to have had the car "serviced in line with manufacturers recommendations" - this is one of the boxes you tick upon purchasing the policy. Not sure if you can confirm this ? I am not sure if anyone can !!.

Anyway, I know it's a late reply, but you may still find the above handy.
