Wooo first post on the MSE forum.
Right i need advice on how best to paint woodwork on windows. We have a 12 pane old style window and its in serious need of painting. Before i've used masking tape to tape all around the edges on the glass to stop paint getting on the panes.
However everytime i do this, no matter how careful i am, paint seems to seep under the tape. Also as its a long job the masking tape tends to leave nasty stickiness behind when taken off.
Anyone got any suggestions?

a proper brush for painting windows (they do exist) is well worth the money. and a very steady hand. i tried for ages to find some sort of cost effective way that wouldnt leave marks and just found that with the right brush i got the same results as if the windows didnt have glass in them.
i used this one

I found a 0.5 inch regular paintbrush worked ok. practice makes all the difference.
when dry, use a sharp scraper type thing to clean up the glass.
masking tape and "paint guard" things they sell in diy shops are worse than useless.0 -
Brillant suggestions thank you very much0

buy decent masking tape, the cheap stuff is worthless.
it tells you how long it can be left in the sunshine for without being a pain to remove.0 -
another tip is to buy a 3/4" or 1" brush and cut the bristles along the width at an angle of roughly 30degrees. as long as you cut in one neat line the resulting brush will make painting edges a lot easier0
