There Is Only One Money Saving Tip That Goes Right Through The Board...

There is only one money saving tip that goes right through the board.

It is called "self control". We live in an age where everything has to be done NOW - MUST HAVE - WANT. If we all exercised just a little bit of self control - self restraint - I think we might all just save.....a penny or two.....a pound here and there.....not to mention a pound of flesh - we're all getting too fat, too self indulgent, into debt. It's just all too easy to take what's on offer! The day I started taking control of my spending, my weight, being more responsible for myself and my family I began to realise that the Good Life wasn't necessarily - the Good Life. Neither is working too hard and playing less. We all need to play and take more time out for ourselves and our loved ones. Let's get away from the WANT IT NOW culture and lighten up a bit.
I hope this makes a bit of sense. It's not just money you will save by using self control, it opens up a whole new world.

SELF CONTROL isn't fattening, doesn't eat into your wallet or your purse, can knock pounds off your bills, give you more time with your loved ones but above all it gives you more self respect. We can only change society one man at a time and that one man is yourself.

LOL it makes LOTS of sense Mumsie, just wish I could get that through to the young people I teach. They're all gagging for cars at the moment, and these by the sounds of it, are going to be mainly funded by parents  It's not really teaching them to save up for one and the insurance etc:confused:

Yes it makes sence and I for one agree
  • I agree Mumsie. The old addage....watch the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves is all too true.

When I look at my outgoings there are insurances for this and that (pet, life etc) which years ago we probably wouldn't have had. Everyone these days thinks they are so hard done to if they haven't got a DVD player, computer and broadband, mp3 player or holiday every year.

Also supermarkets are IMHO capitalising on the busy parent who hasn't the time to do their shopping at different places. They offer everything in the one place, which I have to admit, goods (such as clothes, dvd players etc) can often be cheaper than in town but things such as medicines, shampoos, wash powders, loo roll and even fish are for me much cheaper in town. I'm lucky in that I have free time to shop around for bargains and it is true that I save alot this way. All those few pennies saved in each shop can soon add up to the cost of several xmas presents.

Life insurance is very useful if you have dependants. My Grandma's dad dies when she was twelve so her mother was left with virtually no money and four children to look after. He was a doctor and they used to live in a huge mansion and had a car and chauffeur and all sorts but because life insurance was not around in those days, once he died, they were very poor.
  • Well said. If we thought more if we really need something rather than just want it then I know that our costs will fall. I thought that I was living a pretty frugal existence untill I really thought about each and every penny I spent and if I really needed it. I now have money left at the end of each month! The rest of the world lives on so much less than us and they have so much to teach us about a want and need.
