eXTRA strong cat flap ??

Is there such a thing ? my cats are breaking into the house and its driving us crazy, especially with this cold weather as we now have a great gaping hole in the door  where they have smashed the last one (a staywell 917) into little pieces !

We want to be able to shut them out at meal times etc when im cooking in the kitchen as they have taken to begging and raiding the compost pot,

TIA

    I've been Money Tipped!
We had a similar problem when our "then" baby kept locking the catflap and the cat simply smashed through. I had to remove the lock mechanism in the end on the new one.

I've seen one that doesn't have a locking mechanism but a seperate sheet of hard plastic than blocks the whole flap rather than one corner when you slide it over. No way would a cat break through that. I think I saw it at Argos.

We had a one of those with the sheet of solid plastic that you slide over to shut it.
Very strong, however our very determined cat just lifted the sheet of plastic up with his paw and got out that way.
Mind you he was a strong cat weighed 20lbs.
It was good for keeping other cats out,I just could'nt keep my giant boy in.
  • thanks that was the original flap we had and they had no problems sussing that out, I have 3 'stocky' cats and they sometimes like to take a run at it ;)

  • We have a neighbours cat who regularly tries to smash our cat flap to pieces and has actually managed to get the whole thing off of the door, despite it being screwed in! Obviously this scares the life out of our cat and he isn't going outside any more.

Any ideas on how to keep him out or catch him?

    Thanks

  • If you catch him what will you do?

No idea but we have something infront of our backdoor to stop even the most determined cat burglar... Obviously nit feesible if you need the garden!
If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!
  • haven't decided yet.... we obviously need the garden for us and our own cat so no good blocking off the whole door.

Maybe just some time in a trap will be enough to stop him coming back? either that or we might find out who he belongs to if he has a tag and tell them to get him neutered or we'll report him in the same way you can savage dogs.

Obviously dont really want to hurt him but my cat is at risk and my son gets scared when he's trying to break in so I can't let it continue.

Any other ideas of what to do with him are most welcome! thanks
