Fixing a LCD TV to a wall

I have just bought a new 32" LCD TV and I want to mount it on the wall. I have bought the necessary bracket, but I am looking for any tips people might have in order that I get it right.

It is a proper brick wall so I don't need to worry about it being able to support the weight of the TV.

Simple things like making sure I have it in the right place, connecting the necessary cables, etc.

  • You may find it useful to cut some cardboard the same size as the screen and stick that up with blu tack so that you can find a height and position you are happy with.

I found it was easiest to put the bracket up, then put all the leads into the TV (even ones you don't currently use) and then mount the TV. Certainly on my TV it is very fiddly to change cables with it attached to the wall!

Are you hiding your cables? Because if its a solid brick wall it was hard work for me to chase it out, but with the correct tools shouldnt be a problem.

please hide the cables. This done without hiding cables looks terrible IMO.

I want to hide the cables but unfortunately the wall is wallpapered. I do have some spare wallpaper, but it has been up so long that I am sure it will be discoloured.

I was going to use a but of cable trunking and I might even be able to wallpaper the trnking to try and hide it a little better.

Not only your opinion.. mine :D

Have resisted the urge to buy a flat screen ...... looking but not yet a 42 inch
Because this spring will redecorate the lounge , hiding all cables . Easy for me as tv will sit on a disused chimney breast and all cables will be well hidden.

Have you looked at D-Line trunking?
  • My biggest mistake was following the instructions that came with the bracket, it said to measure the wall to find the centre to put the tv. Now it quite high and hurts my neck to watch for too long!! I cant take the bracket down as i rounded the screws putting them in! I used trunking for the cables and painted it the same as my wall.I put it sideways instead of down and sideways, because theres less trunking and less obvious. GOOD LUCK
