Depositing a cheque in a Lloyds Cash Account

Hi,
Yesterday afternoon I went to my local LLoyds Bank to pay in a cheque for £26,500 (left to me in a will), the cashier said she would have to get a manager to complete some checks and fill a form in as it was such a large some of money. He asked where the money had come from, presuming that is for money laundering or something. Then the rest of his checks were trying to find out what savings accounts and current accounts I had and would I like one of theirs, we really didn't have the time to discuss bank accounts with him as we had to be home for our son finishing school, so I told him I wasn't interested in opening any accounts yet, I just wanted the cheque paying in as I didn't want it lying around the house, and I had to go because I had to go and do the school run. He said fine and he would pay the check into my account. It wasn't until about 9pm I checked online and there was no sign of the cheque been paid in. I phoned the help line and they told me they couldn't see it in the account neither and to ring the bank in the morning. Is there any reason why it wouldn't show up as being paid in?

Yes - if you deposited it after the cut off time for the day, it might not show until after the close of business today.0
