How do I make kitchen wall cupboards deeper?

I have an alcove that is 180cm wide and 70cm deep, I'd like to fit some kitchen wall units so that they come level with the front of the alcove, but how would I do it?

I think units that deep would be unsuitable for wall hanging. Could you use floor standing units instead? Or build a false wall to make the alcove shallower first?

    Hi,

you could use standard size, line up at the front and support them at the side, rather than the back, though at 180cm wide, I think they would still need some back support in the middle.

Sturdy brackets of some sort on either side of the alcove. Couple of lengths of 2x4 spanning the alcove and sat on the brackets. Cupboards sat on the 2x4s and also attached to each other and either side wall of the alcove for extra strength and rigidity. Brackets and 2x4s should be hidden by the pelmet attached to the bottom of the cupboards.

Supporting the wall unit as suggested will certainly work .
    BUT

Or am I just trying to find problems :D what with the gap beneath the wall unit ??

Beneath the wall cupboards will be still be a deep recess.
Is the plan to run a worktop across the front of the orig recess ???
Would like a little more info

Under the wall cupboards I have a microwave which sit on the end of a run of units that are at right angles to the alcove, then a fridge freezer and finally an oil boiler. At the moment the units are fitted to the wall, but they are difficult to get at as I have to reach over the boiler and fridge. I thought if they were brought forward to be level with the boiler and fridge I could get things out of the cupboards without standing on a stool, also if the backs of the cupboards were removed and they go right back to the wall, I could store things that I don't use very often so increasing storage.

I'd consider having a cupboard specially made so they are lighter than regular kitchen units - almost like shelves, but use the same kitchen door fronts so it still co-ordinates.
