Repairing vinyl floor - ideas?

HI,
I've a vinyl floor in my kitchen (roll, not tiles). However, there are scratch marks due to wear and tear over the years. I am unable to cut out a piece of new vinly and replace, due to the nature of the holes.
I've tried 'painting' over the scratches, but after a while the paint comes off.
Any ideas - without having to lay a whole sheet of new vinyl? Are there any paint-like kits for vinyl??
