when they have the festival of history (they may do the same on other event days) they usually pay u back if u take out membership, we did this last year and it worked out about £15 for membership which was for one adult and a carer and u take up to 6kids with u.
btw the festival of history is a BRLLIANT weekend.

I've had a couple of years Membership and it was great. I think your enjoyment will depend upon weather you like historic Buildings and Castles etc and where in the country you live or are prepared to travel too.
I originally got the membership because I found the individual price of visiting an English Heritage site quite expensive (considering the majority of sites are ruins) but with the membership, you have almost unlimited access to the properties, get free or cheaper access to special events and get a discount in the shop.
Being a member, you also get discounted or free entry to other historical sites, such as Free entry to Fountains Abby (a massive National Trust property in Ripon) and each member is also elegible to take children under 19 with them, free of charge.
The final great thing about membership is that when you join you will get a free guide book, covering all the properties (worth about £7+) and an ok magazine every few months. If you joined now, you should get the 2009 guide book and then the 2010 guide book in April time.0 -

Depends where you live. We joined the first time in the Isle of Wight and it paid for itself in a few days, same thing the year we holidayed in Kent/Sussex. Back at home we haven't got that many EH properties nearby, and they're mainly of the "romantic ruin" type, so pretty cheap admission anyway. Since it's a worthwhile charity we don't bother too much about getting our money's worth and tend to alternate yearly with National Trust as we can't afford both each year.0

sorry was typing too fast for my brain lol
if u pay to get into the festival of history they refund that payment to u if you take out membership on the day. not sure how the heck they worked it out but one guy was in profit and for us it cost £15
we live in the south east and to be honest there arent that many properties around here but for the £15 we still felt it was worth it to visit dover and a couple of other places
hope that makes sense nowWhen you know better you do better0 -
