Why does the boiler need replacing and why do the rads need replacing?

What is being offered for £ 2,800? In other words whats in the detailed (hopefully) quote you have received?

Have you got minimum three quotes for comparison purposes?

    Cheers

  • In answer to your question Keystone, the Quote includes
Removal of old boiler, cylinder and water tank and un-needed pipes in Bedroom
Installation of Valliant eco tech Plus24 combi boiler with condense pump, wireless room thermostat and scale reducer, chemical clean, corrosion protection £2300 the rads work but old (although have not been on for 2months as flat vacant) for £500 can be replaced. Can they just be repaired where needed and new valves put on?

Currently I have a Potterton boiler that does work however I wanted to change the kitchen and make more space which means moving the boiler. A Home Service report done Dec 09 recommended due to age and excessive ignition delay a new Boiler would be wise. I didn't want to move the boiler then find out it didn't ignite at all and have to re do the kitchen - better to get it out the way now.

I'm still awaiting 2 other quotes, guess these will give me a better idea of costs and services avail, as I really have no idea :-)

you may find that you will be very disappointed with this boiler and it shouldnt have been advised if taking out a hot water cylinder .the flow rate from the 24kw is not very good ..
did they test your water pressure to advise you on what options you have ..
how big is your house did they measure the rooms to see what size rads you require
as for the price the price is what most poeple look at but the main question is what you get for the price ..
i have been a gas installer for over 20 years and i also work for british gas ..

my advice is stay clear of a 24kw and go for min 28kw but if you have good water pressure i would opt for a 32kw ..

boiler scrappage scheme is for all g rated boilers normally if it has a pilot light and that would be £400 off the price that you would claim back

it is a very good idea to change any boiler older than say about 10 years as the new boiler will save you a small fortune ..

just fitted a new boiler for my mum and i got the boiler from ebay in total its cost her £450 for new boiler and flushing and new valves ..

might be an idea to see how much you could buy all the parts for as you will get them just as cheap if you look about and then the plumber cannot mark them up to make more money from you

Would a 24kw combination boiler be suitable for a 1 bed flat. To replace an old boiler with water tank. Must have hot water when I need it.

Looking for the scrappage deal. Would you recommend Worcester or Vallient?

Like your idea of buying the boiler to avoid the mark up. Do the gas engineers have any issues with that and do the suppliers sella kit with everything in it?
    Many thanks

Can you enumerate the savings as a typical example please?

How much would it have cost her if you'd charged her as an ordinary client rather than doing the work for free?

and who takes responsibility for the installation in these circumstances? Equally who does all the fetching and carrying which represents a cost.

joe , if i don`t supply the boiler . It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure it works and has no damage . if not it will result in a recharge for return visits etc etc to install and commission the boiler as this is extra .

as for heating eng , is he winding everyone up ? £450 supply and fit for mum ?

my mams would have cost £0 , cos shes my mam .
    Arf
  • Price is about right when you take into consideration where you are. Only concern is output of boiler. Get them to supply at least 28kw for the same price. Too many people here seem to think you get a decent job for peanuts.

Stick with what youve got. It works doesnt it? Get it serviced by someone who knows what they are doing and plan to fit the kitchen around it.
    New doesnt mean better.
