ps2/laser problems?

Hi

When playing on PS2, occasionally tv screen dims ... the last time it went black for about 20 seconds. I know it's not the tv ... the ps2 is old/second hand, but I'm hoping it'll last until the ps3 comes out and ps2 prices drop a bit! Is the screen dimming/going black a sign that it's the laser? I've searched and found instructions in other posts for how to clean the laser, but don't really want to do it unless really necessary.

Thanks, Cat

  • usually with ps2's the prob with the laser is allignment, so the games don't read/load. so if you're lucky it might just be a faulty cable transfering the signal to the tv.

We had this problem once with the PS2. I used a CD head cleaner (like a CD, with brushes on the bottom). You just put this in the tray, and let it run. This cured the problem immediately for us, and it hasn't happened since.

I think its the cables as well. Thought ours was faulty until I twiddled with the scart and all was well again. Sometimes they just work loose
